Lab Technician (R&D) – Environmental Biotechnology

Requirements
We are seeking a motivated, hands-on Lab Technician to join our R&D team and support cutting-edge research at the intersection of biotechnology, chemistry, and mineral processing. You will work in a dynamic, cross-disciplinary environment, contributing to experiments, lab operations, and the development of novel bioremediation technologies.
This is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate looking to gain industry-relevant experience, develop technical and professional skills, and contribute to impactful environmental innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and analyze biological, mineral, and chemical samples using wet lab techniques.
Perform experiments using analytical instruments such as ICP-MS, HPLC, and spectrophotometers.
Conduct molecular biology assays (e.g., cloning, protein expression, purification) and biochemical tests.
Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot lab equipment (centrifuges, pH meters, pipettes, etc.).
Manage reagent and supply inventory, including ordering, organization, and lab logistics.
Document procedures, results, and observations accurately in lab notebooks and digital systems.
Follow and promote lab safety protocols and contribute to safety audits and compliance.
Collaborate with senior scientists and other researchers to optimize methods and scale processes.
Who You Are
A recent graduate (within the last 3 years) with a BSc or MSc in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Hands-on experience in a laboratory setting (academic, industry, or research).
Familiarity with basic analytical instruments and molecular biology techniques.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to safety.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Eager to learn, adaptable, and passionate about environmental and biotech innovation.
Program Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Career Starter Program, candidates must:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the placement.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person.
Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Self-identify as facing one or more employment barriers (e.g., early school leaver, underemployed, living with a disability, Indigenous, recent immigrant/refugee, etc.).
Be a new hire to ZalvaTech Recovery Inc. (not a current or former employee).
